Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people. Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him. Don’t participate in the things these people do. (Ephesians 5:3-7)
Some people think sex is evil. That the act isn't from God. Some people even believe that sex is the forbidden fruit God spoke about in the Garden of Eden. I laugh as I write this! Such is not the teachings of the Bible. The Bible says that sex is a gift from God and to be enjoyed in the context of marriage. Hebrews 13:4 says: "Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery."
Sexual immorality happens when people engage in sexual activities that do not honor God. And the thing about sexual immorality is that it destroys our body. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 6:18: "Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body."
The alternative for sexual sin is holiness. 1 Thessalonians 4:3: "God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin." Paul says that sexual immorality is among the sins that have no place among the people of God.
Doing the Word
Stay away from sexual immorality.
Prayer
Dear Father, help me to pursue holiness. Take away anything that feeds my desire for sexual immorality, in Jesus' name, Amen.
